    Default Recommend an album!

Recommend some good albums guys, and just so this thread keeps interesting maybe give us

    Album Name :
    Artist:
    Genre:
Similar albums: (only if you can)

And maybe some background on the album or artwork.

    Well i'll start it

    Artist: The doors
    Album Name: The Doors
    Genre: Psychadelic rock
Similar albums: Surrealistic Pillow by jefferson airplane, Inna gadda da vida By Iron butterfly.

The album's dark tone and frontman Jim Morrison's sexual charisma and wild lifestyle influenced much of rock and roll to come.

The album is generally thought of as the band's best work. It's also considered to be one of the quintessential albums of the counterculture movement/Social Revolution.
In 1998 Q magazine readers voted The Doors the 93rd greatest album of all time; in 2003 the TV network VH1 placed it at number 60. In 2003, the album was ranked number 42 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

    Album Name : The Top
    Artist: The Cure
    Genre: Alternative

The Top was the studio album to follow Pornography. After Pornography, Robert Smith found himself without his friend Simon Gallup, who departed the band due to a fight.

Smith then took a radical shift in his music. Just months after the bleak Pornography, the band released the single "Let's Go to Bed" which just featured Smith, Lol Tolhurst and session drummer Steve Goulding. Following this was "The Walk", and then "The Lovecats". All three were poppy and upbeat and featured little guitar, very different from the things they'd done in the four albums prior. The Top is the first album to follow this new side of The Cure.

Due to the conflicts and band lineup troubles, Smith wrote almost all of the music himself, and played almost all the instruments (except the drums). As such, this is closer to a Robert Smith solo album than any other album in the band's history, seen as experimental and transitional.

    Album Name : Phantasmagoria
    Artist: The Damned
    Genre: Alternative/ Gothic Rock

Phantasmagoria is an album by The Damned released by MCA records in July 1985. Special editions were available on white vinyl or picture disc some versions included a free 12" of their #3 hit Eloise.

After much wrangling, The Damned received a new contract with MCA Records in October 1984 (past member Captain Sensible's hit solo career helped) and recorded the album in Eel Pie Studios between March and June 1985. It reached No. 11 in the charts, and was the band's highest charting album ever. The non-album single "Eloise," (a Barry Ryan cover), released six months later, became a huge UK hit reaching No. 3.

The Damned centered the entire album around David Vanian's deep voice, giving much of the album a gothic feeling. The vibe of The Damned's 18-minute gothic opera "Curtain Call" from The Black Album resounds throughout Phantasmagoria. "Edward the Bear" is a light pop tune sung by Roman Jugg. The album is currently out-of-print in North America but was remastered and reissued by Geffen Records in Japan in 2007, which features replicas of the LP's outer and inner sleeves and the CD's label resembles the white vinyl edition.

    Band - Campag Velocet
Album - Bon Chic, Bon Genre

There is a good biography on the bands myspace so i'll just post the link and yous can read their story there. Cacophonous Bubblegum and Sauntry Sly Chic are the only 2 from the album on this link, the others are from their unfortunate second album.

I've tried and failed to get a lot of people into this band so they are an aquired taste, took me a good few listens to get into them. But once your familiar with the album it's different class, the gritty snarl of Pete Voss' vocals and the sleazy rhymes of his lyrics, the drummer who was only playing for a couple of weeks before his audition for the band but came out with some mighty hip-hop-esque beats, the bass player who backed them up brilliantly and the minimal, reverby, underhand riffs of one of my favourite guitarists all come together to make one of my top 5 albums of all time.

    Sensational!!!
