No in Glasgow it isn't. Never heard anyone say it here.

Then why the fuck are you having a full Chinese for your supper? Supper consists of some cheese on toast or several bowls of cereal (depending on how many joints have been smoked that night).

The hot drink's tea as well but your dinner can be called your tea too. Might be a west coast of Scotland thing but we always got the shout off the auld dears when we were wee of 'get yer arse in here, yer tea's ready'.

Must be. Said something about Ireland too so fuck knows. The Irish just tend to say tatties when they are talking about their dinner so I am going with Edinburgh. Poor guy.

I heard it sparingly when growing up but definitely wouldn't say it is a working class word. It's dinner.

And I agree supper is a light snack. Maybe a wee bit of whatever is leftover from dinner but never another full meal.

    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Anything in between any of these is a snack and doesn't need a special name.

But what about Sundays? Dinner eaten at lunchtime?

Breakfast, lunch, dinner then at night - supper. Supper was like a cheese on toast thing, never a full blown meal.

I've always thought that was just an excuse for folk to get pissed earlier in the day.

Us Germans make it a bit easier, we have 'Frühstück' (something eaten early), 'Mittagessen' (something eaten in the middle of the day) and 'Abendessen' (something eaten in the evening). So we name the meal after the time, we eat it
